LANGUAGE COURSES

Standard English   

Lessons will include grammar, pronunciation, listening, reading and conversation exercises according to the linguistic level. Participants will need to attend at least 75% of the lessons.

Specific modules will be offered to enhance competences such as speaking & listening and business English for administrative staff. Programmes will be defined after enrolments close. Participants will need to attend at least 75% of the lessons.

Public Speaking in English

The course will deal with basic rules and techniques to create an efficient talk in English when speaking to an audience.

The advanced module is consequent to the first course on basic skillsfor Public Speaking. Exercises and simulations will be the core of this lab.

Negotiating Skills (in English)   

The course includes a simulation and observation workshop to practice how to present an idea, a project, how to convince, persuade and make a dialogue, a meeting effective, by practicing sentence structuring, English expression and comprehension. These activities aim to train and let participants become aware of certain techniques, practices and attitudes they should apply when using the English language.

Scientific Writing in English   

In this course you will: - Do several pieces of writing and receive feedback on accuracy (including article/thesis extracts) - Do a presentation, and receive feedback on grammar/pronunciation from me, and on delivery/organisation from the other students; - Be involved actively, suggesting improvements to others' texts; - Look at aspects of text structure, particularly of articles/theses; - Look at advanced grammar points of particular relevance to academic scientific writing; - Look at language/textual features of professional communications; - Look at ways to resolve language questions independently.

Holding a business meeting in English   

Your English linguistic and communicative skills are strategic when organising project meetings with foreign colleagues and/or partners. You need to pre-organise the meeting, invite people, be ready for your talk, chair the meeting in order to make decisions, and finally write the minutes.
The crash course in “Holding a business meeting in English” aims to provide researchers with useful hints as regards vocabulary, phrases and linguistic structures to use when holding a meeting.

Standard German    

Standard German courses aim to develop the communication skills as well as grammar and vocabulary. Classes will be activated upon specific needs. Participants will need to attend at least 75% of the lessons.

Italian courses for foreign staff   

The course will focus on the Italian language (grammar, conversation and role plays) as well as on the Italian and Trentino culture (films, guided tours in Trento) in order to learn the language and help integration at FBK and in the local society.
